'Angel's Share'

Mixed media sculpture made by workshop participants to signify loss.

Materials: handmade paper from waste barley draff, copper wire from waste electrical flex, driftwood and participants’ handwritten words.

This workshop was a participatory element of research looking at cultural traditions associated with Scotland. Here the whisky industry was the focus particularly its association with important occasions like birth, marriage and death. The ‘Angel’s Share’ is the 2% of spirit which evaporates from the oak casks every year during maturation. The focus is on using waste materials to create conversations around a difficult subject.
