Walking the Path of Water: Source to Salt

My current project, “Walking the Path of Water: Source to Salt” is focused on experimental mapping of local walks which connect with paths of fresh water using collected water, the geolocation app ‘what3words’ and materials which have had another life. This artwork combines the unpredictability of traditional crafts with the precision of modern digital techniques.

Research

Walking in the landscape creates connections between people, place and nature. The theme is fresh water.

Processes

Exploration of printmaking, textiles, and sculpture, employing sustainable materials, handmade paper, inks, and dyes.

Refinement

Gathering the individual elements together is the process too. How they come together tells the story.

Installation

This artwork will be an installation.  There will be a textile wall hanging with paper and glass elements. In front of that will be a wooden garden bench with a fabric cushion, where the audience can sit and listen to an ambient audio track using headphones. There will be an old book used to make the paper signs which contains Polaroid photographs of the locations from the walk.

Research Project - Found, Collected, Forgotten: Walking the Path of Water

Found, Collected, Forgotten: Walking the Path of Water will highlight the global effects of water stress and how that is reflected in contemporary art. The issues will be explored through the production of mixed media artworks for the end-of-year showcase in Spring 2024 as part of my BAH Art and Contemporary Practices final degree year.
